I think that you should start your own chain of dance competitions/conventions. Have you heard of Showstopper or anything along that line? Here is the link for their website: www.showstopperonline.com

Opening a dance studio would be fun also, but if you have a great business sense, starting your own dance competition would be so fun, I think! I teach dance and our students pay big bucks to go to these competitions and conventions. You could originate your dance competition in New York and do a few on the east coast while you are getting started.

Another idea is to start a dance organization for teachers to belong to. I belong to Southern Association of Dance Masters where I tested to become "certified". The certificate looks really good, it builds credibility, and the parents feel really good about their children taking from someone in the organization. You could find an area in New York and start an organization or alliance of this type, offer membership to dance instructors for a certain amount of money per year. Give them incentives such as certificates, master classes, etc. I really think these two things would work. The last one might be a little easier to start on your own, and would require less start up cost. You could start your organization and later offer a dance competition with it when you make enough money.

Other ideas would be to pursue a day job in the corporate world and attend auditions at night or on weekends.

hi Hun. i started in ballet at 5 then broadened out to street /hip hop which i now teach to 5-16 year olds.
I'm employed by my dance studio as a tutor but i also dance there still professionally. i spend most days there, sometimes just for the hour other days for a block of 4/5 hours. the pay is very good and the hours are worked around me, which is cool.
because I'd been dancing there for 10 years i was in the 'right place at the right time' and the job was offered to me. I've completed 120 hours of dance tutor training, which was compulsory and had a police check, again compulsory.

there are a number of tutor classes available and I'll send a link to one i know x

good luck Hun, NEVER give up the dream x x
