I’m Considering Doing Ballroom Dance?

I’ve done ballet for 8 years and modern for 1 year, and I’m interested in ballroom. At a family friend’s wedding they had a friend who was a ballroom teacher, and he taught me how to follow him based on the pressure he put on my hand as well as a basic waltz step. He said I had a lot of potential and was a really quick learner, and he also said he would love to see me start lessons anywhere. That was several months ago, and I’ve been thinking that I would enjoy ballroom. My question is that if I am a pretty good dancer already, would I be able to catch up to others my age (14) pretty quickly and maybe do competitions?

I’m sure that you can catch up quickly! Ballet is the backbone of all dance, ballroom sounds like it would be great for you, so go for it! It might be hard with new steps and a new style, but but as long a you try hard, I think you’ll have a lot of fun!
    Good Luck!

Ballroom is so much fun. And it’s not like ballet because it really is an all ages kind of sport. You don’t need special skills to rhumba! I don’t know if they have classes specifically for your age group in your community but when I took classes I had classmates that were all ages. I was 21 btw with no prior dance experience and I did really well.

    Yep definetely!!!!
It normally only takes a beginner dancer with talent about 1 year before they are good enough to enter beginner grade competitions

    Good luck!!!
