I’m working on getting the hang of Learn to Salsa Dance Beginners’ volume three. It’s tough though because the DVD has a lot more, or should I say, more complex patterns on it and the partner I had been working with bowed out on me. Still, I do what I can and continue practicing all the independent leader movements and for the moves where I’m supposed to be leading a partner I just go through the motions so I can learn what to do when I do have someone to dance with. Once I feel like I have a feel for the moves, I head out to a club to get some “real world experience” dancing with a girl. It’s working okay but I’ve been on the SalsaCrazy.com website and have seen a Dance Partners link so I’m thinking about seeing what that’s about.

As for the DVD, it’s great. The entire Salsa Crazy Presents Learn to Salsa Dance series has been good so far. If you choose to learn to Salsa, it’d be wise to choose these DVDs to learn.

I’ve been through all three DVDs in the Learn to Dance Salsa series but in my opinion Beginners volume 3 is the best of the beginner’s DVDs. I guess that’s because by the time I started with that DVD, I didn’t feel like a fish out of water. I had learned the dance moves from the other DVDs backwards and forwards (literally & figuratively) so when I started this one, I was ready for the pace, I understood the language used / directions given when the instructor was reeling off what the dance combinations would be and really, I guess I was just more comfortable overall with my Salsa dancing abilities.

If you’ve already got some experience with Salsa dancing then this DVD may be a perfect fit to help you become an even better dancer. If not, Salsa Crazy has a 3-pack (which is what I purchased) that includes this DVD and two other that’ll get you ready for this DVD.

By the time you reach Learn to Dance Salsa three, you should be ready to stop leaning on the instructors for demonstrations and have developed a keen ear for following the verbal directions being given. This is simply because that’s how a majority of the lessons are given from here on out in the series. The instructor, Evan Margolin, will use Salsa speak to let you know the move that’s to be done, he’ll demonstrate and then it’s your turn. For those ready for DVD 3, it’s excellent because the lessons move faster. This is the DVD where, if you’re like me, will really begin to feel like a Salsa dancer and not so much a student.

The focus of the lessons on this DVD is mostly combinations and more intermediate versions of some of the dance steps taught in DVDs 1 & 2.

What’s great about Learn to Salsa Dance volume three is that even though it’s a beginner’s DVD you do more than what most would consider beginner’s dance movements. This DVD, more than the previous ones, is heavily focused on partner work. Some of the movements include the simple cross body lead, the cape and some intermediate additions to some basic Salsa patterns. How many other beginning Salsa DVDs out there offer all of that! I did my research and I can say, not many. That’s why I chose the Learn to Salsa series.

Though the first two DVDs in the beginners series are fun, this is where the real fun begins. Students using the DVD are expected to have a working knowledge of not only basic salsa moves but doing movements within patterns and the technical terms for doing said moves. If you do not possess this, you will find the DVD difficult as Salsa jargon is used throughout and the pace is, to put it nicely, brisk. If you do have this knowledge, you will find the patterns and advanced beginners moves taught thrilling and challenging. Enjoy!
